Flora Chaplin
Hi I’m Flora, poet and blogger. Writing has always been a big part of my life as an outlet for self expression and learning about others. It is very exciting to be able to share some of my work and to join with other creatives as we go along this journey.
Journaling since I was about twelve, I have found that expressing myself through pen and paper is a lot easier for me than speaking. Poetry stemmed from this when I was in a really dark place and needed to ‘exorcise my demons’. Now, I continue writing my journal more because I enjoy the self reflection and meditation rather than it being my lifeline as it used to be. In turn my poems have grown with me as a person, focusing on relationships, the outside world, and my personal experiences.
Recently, I have created poems from live performance music by local and national artists. Alan A Art and I tried combining song, artwork, and poetry, and the result was incredible: merging personal feelings and creative ideas with other human beings is a beautiful experience. Some bands who I’ve written from so far include After the Flood, Beaux Gris Gris and the Apocalypse, Brave Rival and The Swaps. I’ve been fortunate to see many different bands play live at venues ranging from the amazing local Temperance Bar in Leamington, to a stage built against the River Severn at the Upton Blues Festival. Meeting musicians who are passionate about their work is very inspiring, and every song can take me to a memory, feeling, and visual that I find myself wanting to create upon.
